    are all contributing to raising achievement

OCTC Training Featured in the East Bay Express

"Indeed, the corps — is aiming to build community. The program guarantees positions for its teachers, part of the reason it is more selective than most private universities — this year the corps accepted less than 10 percent of the roughly seven hundred teachers who applied.In return for job placement, training, and resources, the program asks for a commitment. “We specifically look for teachers who want a career here in Oakland,” Barrett said.

Making a District-Wide Impact

Corps Teachers are contributing to the Oakland Unified School District’s overall improvement and ongoing commitment to increasing student achievement.

 

Press Release: Oakland Unified API Gains Continue to Outpace State Average, 08/31/2006

 

Oakland has demonstrated success in raising the District API (Academic Performance Index, a standard measure of academic growth) at a higher rate than the state average for California over the past year.  Oakland schools also met their set targets for district-wide academic growth at a higher rate than the state average, demonstrating Oakland teachers’ success in raising student achievement.  For details, click on the link.
