Salary & Benefits

Salary

The starting salary for teachers in the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) is dependent upon teaching experience and education level, but overall the District offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The starting salary for a teacher new to OUSD, and with no prior teaching experience, ranges from $39,456 - $46,786. Note that OUSD posts teacher salaries without the district's contribution to benefits; whereas most Bay Area districts post a total amount that includes the district's benefits contribution.  Corps Teachers who successfully complete the week-long summer training become salaried employees of OUSD in late August; new teachers in the District normally receive their first paycheck during the first month of teaching.  For more information regarding pay rates for teachers from OUSD, click here

Benefits

When a Corps Teacher officially becomes an employee of the Oakland Unified School District, he or she also becomes eligible for the same comprehensive benefits as all other OUSD teachers. These benefits include a choice of medical, vision, dental, and life insurance coverage and begin at the start of the school year. OUSD pays for the full benefits of the employee and eligible dependents – as long as the teacher remains in an eligible position. For more information on teacher benefits from OUSD, click here.
